[Personal] Moving forward!

February 14, 2018

A change in scenery and a change in my career as a developer.

Change in scenery

At the beginning of this year, I moved to the Twin Cities, Minnesota where I’m currently still trying to settle down even though it’s been about a month and a half now.  The traffic isn’t too bad.  Music usually makes the commute go by quick and I don’t have too bad of a commute to and from work anyways (~15 mins. one way).  I’ve quickly learned that you need to shop for deals at grocery stores for the best prices.  I no longer throw away grocery store mail inserts, but take my time to look through them.

I unfortunately still don’t have my bed here yet and it probably won’t be brought up until it’s warmer.  Sleeping on the airbeds aren’t too bad, certainly better than on the floor.  I also don’t have a couch either, so guests have to sit on my computer chairs or on the floor.  Luckily, guests are far and few for now.

The lack of furniture is intentional though.  If I plan to move within the year, I would prefer not to have to drag out large, heavy furniture down 3 flights of stairs.  That, and I’m barely home.

The lack of groceries in my fridge is also intentional.  This year I’m trying to keep a close eye on food waste, so what I buy is usually cooked within a few days for prepped meals.

So far, so good.  It’s been a good personal experience and a much needed one too.

Career update

I am still happily employed as a developer, but this time with an agency from the Twin Cities.  I am still currently working with the Java stack and continue to pick up new tech on the side too.  Once I finally settle down here in Minnesota and finally feel like I’m at home, I think I can comfortably go back to my greenfield projects like Project Expense Cards!
