Update 04/15/2022 – It’s been almost 2 years. I stopped playing CoD:MW since that time when it wouldn’t work anymore. Don’t miss it! haha
Update 05/13/2020 – Since the latest patch, I’ve been trying to get Modern Warfare working on a newly built computer. I tried every single troubleshooting tip I could find on this subreddit and other forums. Couldn’t figure out why because there were no errors. I looked at the logs, nothing. I looked at the event viewer, nothing there either. Look inside for a possible solution that may help!
Update 05/13/2020 – The issue returned after I wrote the below. I gave up on trying to resolve it from then on because there was no help from Activision or Infinity Ward. However, yesterday after replacing my ultrawide monitor with a 4K monitor, the crashes stopped and I was able to actually play again. No crashes the entire time I had been on multiplayer or in Warzone. It’s likely that the issue I experienced stems from the game having possible issues with different types of monitor resolutions and monitor connections.
My old setup that DID NOT work:
– Ultrawide monitor @ 60Hz, with resolution of 3440×1440, connected via DisplayPort
My new setup that works:
– 4K monitor @ 144Hz, with resolution of 3840×2160, connected via DisplayPort
Computer
- AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
- GeForce RTX 2080 Super
- 32 gigs RAM @ 3466 MHz
Symptoms
- The game would open up to the menu and then crash right away, without any errors. Battle.net app would show up afterwards.
- The game would open up to the menu, you’ll be able to click through to get to Warzone or Multiple, then when you wait for a game, it crashes on you the moment it finds one. No errors.
Solution (that worked for me)
A good friend of mine who has been helping me troubleshoot this issue suggested I turn off 2 of my 3 monitors and try again. I doubted it at first because how could it be that having on more than 1 monitor would break this game?!!? But……this actually fixed it! If you have more than 1 monitor, disable the others until you only have 1! This is going to be a pain in the ass to disable my 2 other monitors whenever I want to play COD:MW but that’s the workaround for now. Hope it helps!
